Abstract

The article is concerned with the analysis of the concept of "water" in the Ukrainian ethnolinguocultural space, based on the material of the poetic and dramatic text of Lesya Ukrainka. Given the importance of ethnocultural concepts in general and the importance of the conceptualized image of water in the Ukrainian national culture in particular, this issue is currently of great interest. The aim of this study is to find out the ethnolinguistic and cultural specifics of the concept of "water" on the material of the spectacular drama "Forest Song", which is a striking example of a modern text, which organically combines romantic fiction and reality. To identify the in-depth characteristics of this concept the article applies both traditional general scientific methods and special linguistic, including conceptual analysis. As a result of the conducted researches it is established that the concept of "water" in "Forest song" by Lesya Ukrainka is characterized by a branched nominative field, semantic-cognitive versatility, is axiologically marked. It has been found that its semantic structure is determined by a combination of meanings inherent in the concept in Ukrainian ethnolinguistic culture, and individual-authorial language creation. As for the axiological labeling of this concept, it is ambivalent, because it connotes, on the one hand, feelings of joy, admiration, and on the other - sadness, pain, longing, caused by the positive and negative attitude of the people to the water element. The specificity of lingualization can also be traced in the use of names to denote it in the structure of various tropical units - metaphors, epithets, comparisons, and so on. The results indicate that the linguistic objectification of the concept of "water" in Lesya Ukrainka's language has shown wide potential in the interpretation of one of the archetypal concepts on a national basis, which involves further thorough study of this concept and similar in Lesia Ukrainka's and other writers
