The article presents the main definitions of the term ‘term’ proposed by scholars in the field of linguistics. The main ways of creating terms are listed (change of the word meaning, formation of neologisms, borrowing from foreign languages, affixation, semantic method, borrowing from Greek and Latin). The author establishes what causes the ambiguity of the definition of this concept and what is the specificity of the term as a special phenomenon of language. The peculiarity of translation of terms, in particular, the terms of the sphere of agricultural management, is described. The main stages of term translation are identified. The classification of agricultural terms by their structure is presented. The main techniques used in the translation of agricultural management terms (lexical, lexical-semantic, lexical-grammatical) are described and their main task is defined: to convey the meaning of the term being translated as accurately as possible. It has been determined that lexical and grammatical indicators of the text, i.e. the context, play an important role in the translation of terms in any field, since terms are characterised by ambiguity. It is stated that in order to adequately translate terms from the source language into the target language, the translator must have knowledge of the field whose terminology is being translated
