Abstract

Veterinary terminology is one of the specific layers of vocabulary due to the peculiarities of structural-semantic, word-formation and stylistic nature. Despite the large number of works on veterinary terminology, it has not received sufficient coverage in the cognitive aspect, the features of conceptualization and categorization. There are still no works devoted to the categorical analysis of veterinary vocabulary, identification and description of term-forming units and methods used to implement categorical meanings. The purpose of the research is to study the role of the category of space and its linguistic expression in the English veterinary terminology from the standpoint of cognitive linguistics. Results of the research. The main category for the terminology of all scientific disciplines is the category "space". This can be explained by the historical factor underlying the process of perception of the world. Research on medical terminology has shown that the category "space" is the main category of medical terminology, as it has "pragmatic significance, which is due to the need to accurately indicate the specific shape and size, location and location of organs, tissues and systems of the body." The study of veterinary terminology from the standpoint of cognitive linguistics, associated with the study of the role of the category of space and its linguistic expression is appropriate to conduct on the basis of anatomical and clinical terminology. Space in terms of cognitive approach is the basis for the classification of concepts in animal anatomy, because the spatial approach to describing the location of organs and systems of the body is traditionally used in anatomy. The category of space plays an important role both in the birth of the scientific concept and in the formation of the name that reflects it. Conclusions. Thus, by selecting the epistemological categories involved in the process of cognition of objects of veterinary medicine and pathological phenomena, the conceptual features of each category and the bank of terminological means for their reflection are established. Defining the categories of anatomical and clinical terminology of veterinary medicine makes it possible to understand the relationship between cognitive and language structures, as the form and content of the term contain information about the mechanism of the nomination process. In veterinary terminology, the philosophical category of space is widely used, as it indicates the place of origin of the disease
