Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of one of the possible ways of emergence of terms in the field of biotechnology, namely neologisation, and the study of neologisms widely represented in its terminology. The author has studied the English neologisms of the biotechnology field, which emerged in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries due to the rapid pace of its development. Some theoretical foundations of English neology are defined, in particular, the term ‘neologism’ is clarified, and approaches to the classification of innovations are identified. Particular attention was paid to the representation of the most common models of formation of English neologisms in the terminology of the biotechnology field. The structural and semantic features of neologisms in this field are analysed. The conducted research indicates the prospects of studying neologisms in the field of biotechnology. Due to its rapid development, this particular branch of science can contribute to the emergence of new terms that will spread and acquire the status of neologisms. It is these neologisms of biotechnology that may be the most promising for further research in linguistics
