The article deals with the basic approaches to the translation of foreign professional vocabulary of engineers, as well as scientific and technical texts, analyzes some aspects of translation of engineering definitions and substantiates the peculiarities of derivation and functioning of professional vocabulary of engineers. At the same time, the study outlines the priority areas of business and professional communications and discusses some aspects of translation of engineering definitions, and provides reference sources for defining and interpreting the definitions of engineering vocabulary. Aspects of translation of Ukrainian and French professional vocabulary of engineers are in constant development. The paper describes some difficulties of technical translation, which arise in the reproduction of neologisms and equivocal vocabulary. Engineering terms and realities most often fall into this group. Non-equivalent terms arise from the obvious fact that scientific discoveries, technological improvements, technological innovations occur and first occur in one country and then become the property of others. The following glossary of the French National Qualifications Commission for Engineering, which is regularly updated, will facilitate the skilled translation of the professional vocabulary of engineers. The research also analyzes the ways in which terms are translated into Ukrainian. The peculiarities of the application of these methods of transfer of French terms are described
